Craft Hope - the book!

Craft Hope: Handmade Crafts for a Cause
Craft Hope: Handmade Crafts for a Cause by Jade Sims.

I'm so excited to blog about Craft Hope:  Handmade Crafts for a Cause by Jade Sims.  Finally, crafty charity project ideas at your fingertips. A $1 from the sale of the book will be donated to Global Impact, www.charity.org.  It's a win win - we get crafty projects to make and others receive the crafty goodness.  There's a crafty project for every crafter and beautiful pictures, illustrations, easy to read instructions and templates. You'll appreciate the array of designers that contributed projects to help us share with local communities and globally.  These projects will easily motivate people, as you can see by the response to Project 8, Gulf Coast Oil Spil , and their current project.

Encourage kid participation - yay kid power!  Children can be overwhelmed by what's happening around the world and this is a great way for them to heal and work toward making the world a better place to live.

Please go to the website and learn about Craft Hope's current projects and let the crafty handmade items inspire you.  Visit them on flckr and facebook and add their banner to your website.

Enjoy this "feel crafty good" opportunity and a chance to heal.

Crafty environments, hope and history

Wool pot holders were common items in Civil War era kitchens.
Crochet on a settee

This weekend was full of history, nature, knitting and crochet.  I wanted to post some of the pics from our wanderings and share with you  project 8 that Craft Hope.  Please visit the site to see what is being done to support the oil spill cleanup effort.  I hope you will join in the effort, support wildlife rescue, and share your own pics and experiences with nature. We havn't felt the devastating effects of the oil spill here yet, but it is inevitable.  There is already so much polution that is being dumped into the oceans, bays, and rivers that it's a constant battle. I encourage you to raise awareness in your own crafty way.  Please comment if you would like to share what is going on in your area to protect and cleanup the environment.  Your input will inspire us!

Reach for the stars!

The Star Stitch Scarf Pattern is from VickieHowell

UPDATE!

Project 6 is packaged and ready to mail in the morning. Yay!  One of the things that I love about charity projects is the opportunity to, not only give, but receive the chance to learn a new stitch and be inspired by a challenge.  You  make new friends and learn about the world around you from different points of view.  Good stuff all around.

Whenever you donate, it's a great idea to furnish care instructions with your item(s).  Try making your own handmade care tags or visit your local yarn store and Etsy for beautiful tags.  Whenever possible, personalize your care tag with a message of encouragement.

Keep knitting and crocheting, join in charity projects whenever you can and remember to reach for the stars!

Where there's craft, there's hope

This week I started a star stitch scarf for Craft Hope project 6 :: foster care teens.  The design was graciously donated by Vickie Howell.

Please take a little time today to visit Craft Hope and learn about the founder, Jade Sims. Read about incredible crafters joining together to spread hope and help to those in need.  Be sure and take a look at Craft Hope for Haiti on Etsy, which is run by Sarah Jackson.

Find out how you can get involved in the projects and make a difference in the world.  Swing by the about page to learn more about the people involved with Craft Hope.

Simple, fun, and inspirational.  Craft is good!
