Over the weekend, I was looking over my info from the StitchesEast event and I came across a info on patterns from Marta McCall and found a site to get your creative juices going on a Monday called Tink knit.com. I especially love the bag patterns (of course - you know this by now if you've ever checked out my blog) but there are plenty of really wonderful patterns and accessories for you to drool over - no worries. This site will definitely inspire you. More later on Stitches as I plow through my material...you're getting it as my brain processes it.

Working on getting pics loaded to the computer for you - so far, my computer is having what my husbands' daughters used to call an "opposite day". A game they used to play to keep adults out of the kid loop by declaring "OPPOSITE DAY!" and proceeding to do the opposite of whatever they were asked. Yes, it was annoying at times, but you have to admire their sense of playfulness and humor.

If you have any three of these problems with an old sweater, it's definitely time to recycle and reuse! In my wanderings, I found a great tutorial from Neauveau Fiber Arts that shows how to recycle your old sweaters and make new ones. Give it a whirl and see a fabulous creation come to life. Even if you don't have a sweater in sad condition, you can always find one in the thrift store that needs sprucing up or updated. Save a sweater! Go Green!

PAY IT FORWARD IN KNITTING STYLE!

Recently, I was in a local discount store (I mean-serious discount) and noticed that one of my favorite knitting books had landed on the shelf...I thought, oh NO! How could that be? and then I thought - hey, wait a minute, due to the whacky publishing world where a book takes on a life of its own and travels from place to place looking for a home - why not the discount store? Someone who could not afford the regular price has access to a wildly reduced price and is able to knit on! Very cool. Then I thought, hold on there - our local library sorely needed craft books of all kinds...and of course I had to proceed from there. Already in the habit of donating books either to the library, Goodwill, or library book sale, I started looking at these books differently and bought one from the stack to take to our little library where they were estatic to receive basically a brand new book - and hip one at that.

Check your own library for books that need to move on - lighten your load and spread the knit/crochet/craft word to others.

The Knitting Universe site is the place to go to learn more about Stitches East, Stitches West, and Stitches Midwest. I missed the Stitches West because of my big move across country but I will be attending the Stitches East Event in Baltimore this year in November.

Visit the site for the scoop on dates, classes, events, etc. They are all huge events that you really don't want to miss out on if you love your stitches! Save your cookies and budget this trip into your busy lives. Take a little stitchin' time for yourself, take a class, visit the vendors, check out the special events, make lots of new friends and wear your sneakers 'cause you'll be an estatic knitter walkin'. Check out your local Ravelry groups, yarn stores, and community groups that go together to these events and share your travel expense...or perhaps start your own group of knitty travelers!

The site is being updated for Stitches East as the info comes in so you'll definitely want to keep it in your favs.

Gettin' Your Knitting Blog On!

A few things to consider if you are just beginning your blogging journey...


Blogging can be fun and informative for both you and your readers...sharing what you know is a wonderful way to help fellow knitters/crocheters and crafters of all kinds.

I am always drawn to the fun sites that have a bit of sarcasm or sense of humor and fabulous graphics! Keepin' it real AND short also helps me because, like most of us, I'm definitely in a time crunch most of the time.


What do you look for in a blog site? Maybe take the qualities you like in a blog you read and add your own personal flare. Your blog will soon take on a life of it's own.

With the spring season comes a little sprucing up of your stash, your knitting patterns & books - why not your blog? Could it be you have something spectacular to add to the scene and didn't realize it because of your busy lifestyle?

Blogging often is also helpful if you want folks to come back and visit...even if you are sharing a video, blurb about something new you're excited about...a reader depends on you being there, and keeps the blog fresh in their minds. I always take note of the last time someone was online to blog or update.

Twitter has been helpful to me for updates throughout the day about what I am doing regarding blogs, Knit 1 for the Road, and cool stuff I stumble across. I'm not a texter, but you can also attach Twitter to your phone as well as your blog.

BACK TO THE KNITTING AT HAND...

Today I'd like to return to the land of knitting and cool knitting stuff.
If you love the beautiful scenery in films made in New Zealand, than you will be mad for Stephanie Quattrini's designs and kits. I was cruising through one of my favorite yarn sites, Yarn Market after seeing their add for one of Stephanies's Kits - gorgeous bag kit actually rated as skill level EASY in the August 08 issue of Knit 'N Style.

The colors, patterns and textures are very artistic and attainable by mere mortals like ourselves. I especially like the concept of her Freeform Bag Kit, which allows you to become the artist by the placement of embellishments and the use of both knitting and crochet. So many kits leave the creative side of your brain empty and your task oriented side overflowing...resulting in knitter burn out and lack of motivation to finish your project. Not so with Stephanie's kits. I hope you will take a moment away from your knitting/crocheting to visit her online for a breath of fresh New Zealand air - Breathe Deep Everyone as my friend Lyn is famous for saying!
