Parts and Pieces of a Knitful Life

In between working on new items for margknittinaround (my Etsy shop), recovering from surgery, and keeping up with charity items to make, I've been working on a few projects for myself. It feels like I'm knitting and crocheting in bits and pieces, parts and pieces, but somehow it all gets pulled togehter. I am constantly amazed by this occurence!

Knit Outta the Box

Laurie Gonyea is hard at work and has created a new Knit Outta the Box item. I rec'd mine last week and started a cute hat. The kit has everything you need to knit one project at home or on the run so do go by her site and discover what she's been up to.








Slim Silhouette Coat (Free pattern from LionBrand)

Over the holiday, I began this Slim Silhouette Coat (easy) with Lion Boucle'. So far, I'm loving the pattern and yarn.

Dog Days of Summer Crochet

Cotton Blanket crocheted for Tails of Hope Foundation, “Blanketed With Love™” Campaign

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July celebration filled with all the good stuff of life...hot dogs, illegal fireworks (heehee, just kidding), the people you cherish and lively crafting projects. Today, I'd like to share with you some projects I've been working on.

During the holiday, I found some time to crochet this small blanket for the Blanketed with Love Campaign. Normally, I make a larger blanket, but I had enough of this yarn on hand to make this one for comforting a smaller dog. I used worsted weight cottton by Lily Sugar'nCream Stripes, Violet Stripes. I used 3 skeins and a double crochet stitch (with sc for the edging) and size H crochet hook. Fast and simple to make.















Chemo caps crocheted with KnitPicks Crayon Boucle which is a soft pima cotton perfect for chemo caps because it's so soft and comfortable.


Also finished the Doris Scarf from Pop Goes Crochet that I had been working on and am working on scarf number two. I chose yarn from my stash to make these two scarves. The one pictured is made with Yang (Joy#835) from SWTC and the second with SWTC Vickie Howell Collection, Craft, Candi #770. This is a quick and easy project - fun to make too.

PICK UP YOUR NEEDLES, KICK UP YOUR HEELS!

If you've been following along, you know that I've been working on a couple of crochet projects. One is the Irish Lace Scarf pattern from LionBrandYarn and the other is a blanket for the Blanketed with Love Campaign (our Knit/Crochet Along Charity Item- visit Jan 21 Blog for details)

Here's the Irish Lace Scarf pattern with the first rose/leaf added. Not sure if I will make and place all of them on the scarf like the pattern suggests. I'm winging it, as usual. Will post when complete and blocked.

The blanket for Blanketed with Love Campaign is currently being blocked and drying and hopefully in the mail by the end of the week.

Kick your feet up and knit a bit! Consider crochet and play! Crank up the creativity this week so I can hear. I love the sound of crafty giggles of glee.

WHIMSICAL WED UPDATES

It's Wednessday, and I have been totally distracted by all the Inauguration celebration and fashion. On the fashion front, relaxed, yet elegant attire seems to rule. Mixing the expensive with not so expensive - yet still making an elegant statement. It's what our mothers have taught us for years! Common sense in fashion, especially for those of us who are trying to make every penny count. Young designers are coming to the forefront and it's a new age for fashion. So enjoy, incorporate some of these ideas in your own wardrobe and knitting or crochet.

Moving on to the next knit/crochet along...

TAILS OF HOPE FOUNDATION AND their BLANKETED WITH LOVE CAMPAIGN. I have been honored to know Linda Blick and participate in this organization to provide soft knit or crocheted blankets to dogs that are suffering from cancer. I have experienced the anguish of a sick puppy and still cherish the blanket that was given to me by a vet tech. So many times animals are left behind in our society and this is a great way to give back to are friends who definitely know and teach us about love. Linda Blick is a founding board member of this amazing organization which reaches out to dogs and their owners. Some of these owners have reached out themselves and adopted dogs that are already suffering and given them a warm, loving home. Linda has asked for larger blankets, as they receive so many small ones, but whatever you feel comfortable with would be gratefully received. Linda has also kept me updated and sent pics when the owner has provided them and it's a great feeling to see these dogs sitting or laying on the blanket you so lovingly made. The dogs seem to know that these blankets are made just for them. Please visit the website to see all the wonderful work that is being done AND find out some ways you can help.

I will be starting a blanket today (med/large) and will post pictures of my progress. I hope you will join me and invite you to send pics or make comments about your project. I always enjoy hearing about your projects and so do the readers.

Note: If you are unable to afford to send a blanket to Tales of Hope Foundation, than do consider making blankets locally. Check with rescue shelters in your area to see if they are accepting them and what their requirements are.
